2010 FIFA World Cup: Meal 1, England v America
Last World Cup I started a tradition of cooking a themed meal for each of England's matches that reflected the cuisine of their opponents. After England are (possibly!?) knocked out, I just choose a side to base the theme on.
This turned out to be an excellent way to get me in the football mood. I get excited about planning a menu, then spend a whole day prepping the meal! I don't tend to watch the match (shock/horror) instead I find something arguably better to do and find out the score later!
So first up, last Saturday, it was American food. Last time we did burgers so I wanted something a bit different this time around.
I cooked:
Fried chicken (using a KFCish recipe)
Fries (thin cut chips)
Coleslaw
Cornbread
Baked beans
For the coleslaw I finely sliced white cabbage, carrot and onion and mixed in enough mayonnaise to bind.
It all went down really well. Everyone commented on the fries and the baked beans could have been a meal in itself.
Next time. . . Algeria!
